Dr. Alberto Rodríguez Acuna

Dr. Rodríguez was born in Caibarién (Spain), studied clarinet in the National School of the Arts in Havana. He graduated from the Superior Academy of Musical Arts of Prague (AMU) where he also completed postgraduate studies in music education, psychology and teaching methodology. He completed postgraduate studies at the Superior Conservatory of Brno (Czech Republic). Dr. Rodríguez has been a professor at the Municipal Conservatory of Havana, the National School of Arts and the School of Music of the Superior Institute of Music of Cuba and national adviser of the Ministry of Culture of Cuba for clarinet education, and president of the jury in the National Clarinet Competitions.
Dr. Rodríguez has taught master classes in Cuba, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, the UK, France and Spain.
Apart from having served on the jury of numerous international competitions, he was a member of Cuba’s National Symphonic Orchestra (Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional) and orchestral soloist at the Great Theater, Opera and Ballet of Havana. In the Czech Republic he played solo clarinet at the Mozart Opera (Prague) and also co-founded the orchestra’s wind ensemble at the same Opera house.
He also played as soloist of the Czech “Bohemia” Symphonic Orchestra.
He has performed concerts in Austria, Italy, Germany, France, Slovakia, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, Marocco, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Currently Dr. Rodríguez lives and works in Madrid, where he has been a professor at the “Francisco de Vitoria” University in Madrid until 2012. He is the founder and director of the Madrid Clarinet Ensemble and Solo Chamber Orchestra of Madrid.
He is one of the founding teachers of the “International Clarinet Courses Julian Menéndez” and the “Spanish Association for the Study and Development of Clarinet”. He regularly teaches master classes at the Courses and The International Chamber Music Festival of AMEROPA and the Orchestral Courses “Filarmonietta” in Prague, Czech Republic.
He is currently president of the Chamber Music Association of Madrid and has been artistic director of a continuous series of international chamber music courses: “Boccherini 2005”, “Mozartissimo 2006”, and the CHAMBERart International Festivals from 2007 to the present.
Nowadays he works as a clarinet teacher and chamber music teacher in the “Centro Superior de Música Katarina Gurska” in Madrid, clarinet teacher at the “Escuelas Municipales de Música” of the Madrid town hall, and conductor of the “El Capricho” orchestra in Madrid.
He is Doctor, Cum Laude in History and Sciences of the Music by the “Universidad Autónoma de Madrid”, Spain. Scientific consultant ad honorem of the UNESCO Chair.
He has led and conducted a number of international educational orchestral projects in several European countries, regularly in the Czech Republic under his own brand and with the Filarmonietta Praga Orchestra (founded by him in 2001), with the participation of hundreds of musicians from around the world. He works and performs with Czech and foreign orchestras, soloists and choirs (eg. Japan, Germany, Spain). Long-term artistic leader and conductor positions: Benda Chamber Orchestra Ústí nad Labem 2003 – 2013, ChamberArt Madrid (Spain) since 2007, Mladá Boleslav Chamber Orchestra since 2014. He has conducted recordings of several orchestral CDs, incl. two for the American company Summit Records. Among other things, he recorded a CD solo French horn recital with piano in Japan in 2008.
Jiří Havlík was one of the founders, organizers and leading teachers of the international music courses Hornclass in Nové Strašecí (1991 – 2019) and IMF Cornissimo – Lesní roh Praha. For 10 years he worked as the managing director of the international Czech-American chamber music project Ameropa and in other leading organizational positions. Since 2013 he has been the director of the international music festival “Praha, klasika .. / Prague, Classics ..”. In January 2021, he returned to the post of managing director of the Ameropa Chamber Music Academy.
